Get these Easy SEO Items Accomplished Today for your Small Business
At Awesome Dynamic, a local Search Engine Optimization (SEO) & website tech company based out of the Chicago suburbs, we find that small business owners can do a lot for their business and brand using simple techniques. SEO can be overwhelming at times with hundreds of checklist items to keep up to date with online marketing and most importantly your competitors. Here’s a few easy ones to get you started.
Claim Your Apple Maps Listing
Apple has been known to be behind the times, especially behind Google, in connecting to small businesses. For the past 2 years, Apple has been creating a program titled, “Apple Maps Connect” which is similar to Google Maps or any other citation listing service. A citation is an instance of your Name, Address, and Phone Number (NAP) online. As a small business owner, you can create an “Apple ID” and password to start your account. When you login, you must first verify your account by phone. Then you can enter in your business information. Beware: Apple is still working out the kinks. Keeping Track of Logins
When doing SEO for your small business, you will need to keep record of all of the logins. This could be hundreds of logins for social media, citations/claiming local listings, websites, stock photos, accounting, and many more. Many people are concerned about security issues and keep only hand written logins. If these are destroyed in a fire or are stolen without a backup system, it could take years to get everything back. Keep a digital copy in a secured or encrypted file on your computer with a strong security system with backups such as USB drives, security backup programs, or a network. A great example: Facebook logins are essential. If you lose/forget your password or an old employee has control of your account or changes your current password without your knowledge, you could be facing years of legal battles to regain control or months of going back and forth – time which you could be spending on growing your business. Many websites have strict login rules. Make sure to read your terms and conditions.
Reviews are a simple way to gain a great amount of SEO power. For today, create a system to track your online reviews and add time to your calendar for review responding. There are tons of programs out there, or you can simply make a list of your most important review sites and check them monthly if not more often. Get reviews for websites like Google+ and Facebook. These are the 2 big players and you should focus on these 2 sites. Other sites include: Yelp, Trip Advisor, and industry specific sites. Keep in mind, that not all of these sites are applicable to every business. For example, if you print business cards, Trip Advisor would not be for you because most people don’t print business cards while on vacation. Take a look at your reviews at a bare minimum each month and respond to both the positive and negative reviews. This will keep you informed on your customer base and it will show that you care and are engaging. It will also increase your SEO value and drive more traffic to your site with the more reviews you can link to your site and search engines. Make online reviews work for you.
