What’s the Deal with Google My Business Hours
Your Google My Business page is THE MOST IMPORTANT page you could create and optimize on the internet (after your website of course!) By claiming and filling out the Google page, you put yourself ahead of any competitors that do not have one controlled by them. You literally have the power to have some control of what shows up on Google when someone looks for your business or industry. The Google My Businesss hours section is one of the most overlooked parts of a Google page. There is a major opportunity to show up in more search results.

Real Google My Business Hours
There is a lot of talk in the SEO community about Google business hours. Technically, you will show up for more results if you mark the “open 24 hours” option by choosing something like 12:00am-11:59pm. Google’s policy states that you need to actually be open if you are a physical store front. There is a gray area for businesses without a storefront (and even if you do have a storefront) that you can get away with being “open” if you can answer the phone. You can forward the phone number using a program such as Google Voice to forward calls to your cell phone. This is much like forwarding to a different e-mail address.
More hours = more search results = leads to more traffic to your site = more sales
If you’re a single business owner, you can mark your extended hours to when you can answer the phone since that is Google’s check system. Currently, it seems Google is spot checking and making calls to newly claimed businesses to check hours but it also seems that they are focusing their man power on getting all the businesses in the world online and less concerned about the details. The consequences for listing false business hours ranges from a request change by Google to a temporary page down to a full blacklist from search results. Ultimately, it’s a business decision that you have to make.
