00:07 – Why is SEO not a “one and done” type project? First off SEO is always changing, and constantly morphing the way it ranks results. This means SEO is ever-changing and not a static, or one time thing you can do. There are trends, changes, and methods that are always changing. A great resource we love to keep an eye on SEO trends, changes and modifications is SearchEngineLand - https://searchengineland.com/ -
00:13 – Where to begin with SEO? The best place to start depends on the type of your business, however a universal place that is great to start is your Google Profile for your business. www.gybo.com is a link that can help aid you in getting online with Google. Considering Google searches take up over 80% of all searches in the United States, it’s important that you start with them versus Bing or Yahoo. Not that Bing or Yahoo are worthless, but it’s the fact that combined they take up at most, 20% of your search results in the United States.
00:19 – A next great place to start with is Google Analytics for your website / mobile application. There is more information there than a single human can handle and can provide in-depth data and decision making information for you and your business. https://www.google.com/analytics/ - Even if you do not plan on analyzing your data, it’s best to get it setup ASAP so you can come back at a later time and have data to go through. It’s FREE!
00:25 – Responsive web design – One great way to test a site for responsiveness is dragging a screen in and out to see if items on screen move around to adapt to the new size. However, please not that some websites are smart enough to see what device you are looking at the site from (example: a tablet or mobile phone, versus a desktop) and will not adapt since there might be no reason for it to do so. The most accurate way to test for responsiveness is to test from the device you want to test on.
00:35 – Google PageSpeed Insights – https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/ - This is a tool you can use plugin your website to test many aspects of your website. It gives you a rundown and a list of things you can do to fix or improve your site.
00:39 - With mobile users on the rise surfing the internet, it’s becoming increasingly important to have a mobile-friendly and responsive website design.
00:44 – Having too many Google listings could actually be penalizing you, so make sure you don’t have an absurd amount of listing for one business. If you own let’s say 4 different businesses, having 4 or 5 pages across the web for them is OK. But if you have 6 listings for one business that will just confuse Google and end up being a negative penalty.
